Heya Readers!Hhoneybee suggested a pc topic about The Little Prince, at the end of our September thread. I think it's a great idea, but I am hesitating because I have a couple concerns.
The biggest one is the fact that the book is not in the public domain in the USA, which is where most of our members are. Hhoneybee is in Canada, and the book is in the public domain there. The book, including the art work, can be read for free on several Canada websites.
It's one thing if all the members of the exchange already own the book, or are willing to buy the book. BUT! I think there is an ethical dilemma about reading an ebook for free, which has not been released to the public domain.
Granted our group is small and in the big scheme of things it's probably not a big deal. :) I just want to keep things on the up-and-up here!!
My second concern, is that I want to keep the postcard exchange as simple as possible so everyone can play. A reading assignment is going to make the pcs a more time consuming project.
Which isn't to say we can't have more than our "official" monthly postcard exchange! In fact, it would be great to have other trades going on... I fully encourage and support it!
What are your thoughts?
Oh! And! Hhoneybee! Thanks so much for the suggestion! Keep'em coming! :) It's good to have something to chat about as well.Happy Day,
rift
With working full-time and other projects I do, I'm in favor of one swap each month (strange given my gleeful impatience in evidence earlier this month!) I also think Rift makes a good point about the "reading assignment" effect and that perhaps we can either eschew the theme as individuals when the inspiration strikes elsewhere or we could keep it open-ended enough (still) that Hhoneybee (and others) can use ideas like this one at some point.
Wow...wasn't sure what kind of response I'd get but..whewff...really I was just thinking if people knew the book (it's basicly metaphores on life lessons Friendship etc..) and thought it would be a simple sweet theme and the drawings are thoughtful and by no means did I mean it as an assignment for anyone...it was just an idea...if people don't know it..not a problem...next topic...(lets not get too political here friends, it is only postcards afterall) Anyhow..so have we deceided if there will be themes each month or are we leaving it open ended (like Jamie mentioned). Based on the responses I think themes might be too complicated and open ended more realistic. There's my two cents.
